The
St. Mary's Parish Prayer Group Ministry is comprised of twelve people
from St. Mary’s Church and St. James Chapel who meet informally
due to work schedules and locations. The people involved in this
ministry pray for the needs of family, friends, church and nation
using a book entitled "The Sword of the Spirit,
The Word of God" by Joy Lamb. It’s a handbook
and tool for praying God’s word.
The
prayer requests are usually received by phone from parishioner's
concerns. The requests are then e-mailed to the group. Each request
is prayed upon for two months. If the need is greater, the time
is extended for another two months. No last names are used and if
a person’s first name is unique or the situation grave, only
initials are used. All is confidential. It’s simple, it’s
easy, it’s praying daily for other people; and the bonus for
our ministry is that you feel inspired upon hearing about the positive
results.
Following
are some examples of prayers that have been answered:
•
Successful surgeries: In one case a scheduled surgery did not
take place because the person in the hospital was healed. The
doctor didn’t understand it. |
| •
Many health issues resolved. |
| •
Houses sold. |
| •
Employment: All of the people prayed for have gotten jobs except
for one person. |
| •
Financial blessings. |
| •
Suicides prevented. |
| •
Alcohol and drug abuses contained. |
| •
Soldiers serving in Iraq brought home safely. |
Knowing
that other people are praying for their needs helps people not to
feel so alone. You are welcome to join in praying for others. If
interested in doing so or if you wish the group to pray for someone
or a specific need, please feel free to call Gerry Theroux
at 783-1943, e-mail gerryt10@earthlink.net, or Mary Tougas
at 364-6000, e-mail margentou@cox.net. If calling for a prayer request
it is NOT necessary to identify yourself, just leave the name of
the person and the request.
